This area is a great choice for families to spend time together or groups of want to shop and dining under the Spanish sun. The Eixample is home to architectural masterpieces from Antoni Gaudí such as Casa Milà (La Pedrera) and the Casa Batlló, but you also will find the MACBA Modern Art Museum and the Liceu Theatre in the same district - so there is something for everyone. The Eixample is a diverse district and it is common to hear many different languages being spoken from English, Russian, German to Japanese and Hebrew.
From this apartment you are not far from the Ciutat Vella (old city) where you can enjoy a wide variety of restaurants located in the Raval and Gothic Quarter that offer tapas, Mediterranean and international cuisines.
The Arc de Triomf is an arch in the manner of a memorial or triumphal arch in Barcelona.
It was built as the main access gate for the 1888 Barcelona World Fair by architect Josep Vilaseca i Casanovas.
The arch is built in reddish brickwork in the Neo-Mudéjar style.
The front frieze contains the stone sculpture Barcelona rep les nacions (Catalan for "Barcelona welcomes the nations") by Josep Reynés.
The opposite frieze contains a stone carving entitled Recompensa (Recompense) a work from Josep Llimona's the earliest period, representing the granting of awards to the participants in the World Exposition. The friezes along the sides of the arch include allegories of Agriculture and Industry, works by Antoni Vilanova, and of Trade and Art by Torquat Tassó.
The arch presides over Passeig de Lluís Companys, a wide promenade leading to the Ciutadella Park. It is located at the top of the promenade, where it meets Passeig de Sant Joan.

Eixample (right)

Barcelona´s 19th century Eixample district is the birthplace of the Modernism movement where Antoni Gaudi is considered the leader. When looking to experience Barcelona´s world renowned reputation for leading 19th century architecture, this area is king. With all the Gaudi sites within reach like the grand and impressive famous Sagrada familia, the two famous Gaudi houses of La Perdera and Manzana de la Discordia, the sprawling Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, you´ll spend hours rambling along and looking upwards. This grid-patterned area was created in the 19th century to accommodate the overflowing population from old Barcelona; luckily this coincided with Barcelona’s golden age of architecture.. Gaudí, Puig I Cadafalch, Domènech I Montaner were employed by the wealthy to build townhouses, each one more daring than the last…

The Eixample district is divided in two, the Eixample Dreta (right side) and Eixample Esquerra (left side), this divide is marked by Passeig de Gracia, a highly sophisticated shopping street…..

A large part of the Eixample’s attraction includes all the shops, restaurants, cafes and bars to be found… Passeig de Gracias alone will keep any visitor entertained for hours, but all the side streets are full of great stores, theatres, cafes with people everywhere, shopping, relaxing and enjoying an aperitif with friends and family…
